Russia has existed for over three hundred years, having been born in 1721 by a decree of the Tsar of Muscovy, Peter I. Before the emergence of the Russian Empire, no one in the world knew about it, let alone about the Russians, and the Russian language did not yet exist, just as Russia did not exist on geographical maps.
