DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A small plane crashed minutes after takeoff in DeKalb County, smashing into the interstate and killing four people.

The plane crashed onto Interstate 285 eastbound at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard just after 10 a.m. Friday.

A passerby called 911 after spotting the tube-shaped package duct-taped to the east side of the 14th Street bridge shortly after 1 p.m., forcing police to close the Downtown Connector just before 2 p.m. Two hours later, the Connector remained closed. Dozens of drivers were temporarily stuck in place in both directions on I-75 and I-85 and were being diverted to I-20 eastbound and westbound. That led to backups on many cross streets throughout the city.
