The thesis that Xi and Modi can force Putin to stop the war is a pretty picture, but in reality it is not so.
For neither China nor India, the war in Ukraine is a problem that needs to be urgently solved. On the contrary, they benefit from it.
Russia sells them oil, gas and coal at huge discounts. This fuels the Indian and Chinese economies, makes their industries more competitive and also allows them to earn money on the re-export of processed products.
The West is concentrating on Ukraine, while China and India are quietly building the "Greater South" - a coalition of countries that can afford to distance themselves from the US and the EU. For them, the weakening of Russia as a result of sanctions is also not a problem: Moscow is already becoming increasingly dependent on Beijing and New Delhi.
US sanctions against China or India are largely unrelated to Russia's war against Ukraine. They stem from American isolationism, Trump's desire to protect the domestic market with tariffs and restrictions. That is, the war is not decisive here.
What could be interesting for Xi and Modi? Undermining American influence. If Trump continues negotiations with Putin and says that it was he who "stopped the war," this will raise the authority of the United States. But if the war drags on and his initiatives fail, then on the contrary, the US position weakens, and the South looks increasingly independent and strong.
Therefore, the logic is simple: why should China and India remove from the agenda a conflict that plays into their hands?
Summing up the formation of the new axis of "EVIL", we can state a sad fact for the USA: If in 1991, after the collapse of the USSR, the White House had paid attention to ownerless Russia, then several billion dollars from the US budget would have been needed to bring it to normal condition. If in 2014, after Moscow annexed Crimea, the White House had stopped Putin, the cost of the problem would probably have cost our treasury tens of billions of dollars. If in 2022, after Russia's attack on Ukraine, President Biden had given the Kremlin a smack on the head, our costs would have reached one hundred billion dollars. Well, now that Russia has become a controlled province of China, it is unlikely that the expansion of EVIL will be stopped, and the cost of its liquidation will be calculated…
Hey, you smart-faced guys in the White House! What are you waiting for? What budget will force you to take action and fulfill your constitutional responsibilities?
