“The jerk in the White House”: De Niro refused to play Trump
De Niro said he would never play the "disgusting" Trump
Hollywood actor Robert De Niro explained why he would never play US President Donald Trump. De Niro considers the current head of state "deeply disgusting" and "not inspiring any compassion."
Hollywood actor, director and producer Robert De Niro again attacked US President Donald Trump. He stated that the head of state evokes no feelings in him except disgust.
“In every character I play, I always look for a moment of compassion. In Trump, every day I try to find something that evokes this feeling in me, but I can't manage it, it's impossible,” Robert De Niro said in an interview with Bild.
The actor noted that before playing a role, he carefully studies the character and does not leave it until he is emotionally invested in the character. De Niro is categorical regarding the American president.
“Trump is deeply disgusting to me,” concluded the 82-year-old De Niro, adding that if he were offered any amount of money to play the US head of state, the actor's answer would be unwavering: “Never.” De Niro has repeatedly spoken out against the American president in the past: at the Tony Awards in June, he insulted Trump on stage in New York, and in October he again made sarcastic remarks about him while appearing at an event honoring actor Billy Crystal. Taking to the stage, the actor reminded those in the audience of his outburst during the Tony Awards ceremony.
"I'm just very upset about that jerk in the White House," the actor said, adding that Trump should go somewhere else.
Then he raised his clenched fists, and the audience responded with applause.
At the end of October, De Niro's restaurant Tribeca Grill, located in the Tribeca Film Centre building in Manhattan, New York, was evacuated after a package containing a bomb was discovered there; police and firefighters arrived at the scene. Similar "surprises" were found at the homes of other celebrities.
In the Western press, the senders of the bombs have already been dubbed MAGA bombers, a reference to the American leader Donald Trump's election slogan "Make America Great Again," since all those who received the packages are known for their criticism of the current head of state and their democratic views. De Niro was one of them – the fifth package was addressed to him, with the same return address as in previous cases.
During Trump's election campaign, De Niro repeatedly delivered scathing speeches against the president. For example, the actor admitted that he dreamed of "punching him in the face," and promised to move to Italy if the Republican won the election. He didn't keep his word, by the way.
In conversations concerning the president, De Niro has repeatedly resorted to profanity – he especially likes to call Trump a "[fucking] idiot." The president reacted to this insult by, in turn, calling the actor a "low IQ person" on his Twitter account.
"Robert De Niro has taken too many blows to the head from real boxers in his movies. I saw his performance last night and I truly believe he is suffering from the effects of multiple head injuries," Trump wrote.
In his defense, the president stated that the economy is in better shape than ever, employment has reached record highs, and many companies are once again investing money in the US. This latest lie from Trump is causing a lot of controversy among his supporters and opponents.
"Wake up, punching bag!" Trump urged the actor after his performance at the Tony Awards.
Back in May 2018, there were rumors that De Niro had allegedly blacklisted Trump from the Nobu restaurant chain, which he co-owns with Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The Hollywood actor said he would immediately leave the establishment if the current US president appeared there. Matsuhisa, however, confessed that he dreams of seeing De Niro and Trump sitting at the same table in his restaurant. It is worth noting that Trump did indeed visit one of the Nobu restaurants during a visit to Moscow back in 2013.
